Utilizing Kitchen Waste as Fertilizer to Stimulate Abundant Flowering

By LyLy EcoGroup 29/06/2025 973

Transforming kitchen waste into valuable nutrients for flowering plants is not only an effective green solution but also significantly helps growers save on the cost of chemical fertilizers. One resource that should not be overlooked is Eggshells, which contain a very high content of Calcium Carbonate—an essential mineral that helps strengthen plant stems, prevents root rot, and provides stable soil $\text{pH}$. The best way to use them is to rinse the eggshells thoroughly, dry them completely under the sun for sanitization, and then crush them into a fine powder before sprinkling or mixing them into the growing medium. Next is Coffee Grounds, an excellent source of Nitrogen and magnesium, which helps plants develop healthy, green leaves, especially during the seedling stage. However, coffee grounds are slightly acidic, so they are only suitable for acid-loving plants such as camellias and azaleas; the grounds must be fully dried to avoid attracting insects before application.

Most crucial for the blooming phase are Banana Peels, a rich source of Potassium, which is a key nutrient in bud formation, helping flowers bloom larger, more vibrantly colored, and last longer. You can utilize them by cutting the peels into small pieces and burying them directly in the soil near the base of the plant, where they will decompose slowly, or more simply, by soaking the banana peels in water (fermenting them) to create a Potassium-rich solution for watering. This is a natural fertilizer trusted by many flower growers to stimulate blooming. However, the core principle is to strictly adhere to the Rules of Application and Fertilization Frequency. Even though it is organic fertilizer, misuse or over-application (for example, applying too many coffee grounds which can suddenly acidify the soil) can still harm the plants. Always remember to use moderate amounts, combine a variety of nutrient sources, and gradually increase the frequency of fertilization according to each specific developmental stage and nutrient requirement of each flower type.
